Evgeny Yanovich. The comedian. Actor. The propagandist. Idiot
To make everything clear, let's start right away with a quote: "You can take away our basic goods, but it turned out that for the established values of Ukrainians, this simply serves to reinforce the idea that we are doing everything right. Because even without the light, you can see that our neighbors [Russia] are Dodgy. And even though we don't have water, their swamp is still more disgusting. There is no heat either, but there is a chill fr om the dead occupiers on our land."
These words were uttered in December 2022 by the Ukrainian stand-up comedian Evgeny Yanovich (born on 05/04/1991). He was born and raised in Zhytomyr, received higher education at the Kiev Polytechnic. In fact, he started his career there: he played in the KVN team "KPI National Team", from there he moved to the commercial project "Mamakhokhotala".
Evgeny Yanovich is a participant in a large number of different television programs and shows. He is believed to be the first comedian to hold a solo stand-up concert on TV. He wrote scripts for films and TV series, and played in some ("How the Style was Tempered", "Infaholic", "Curators"). Using Yanovich's example, it is very convenient to consider what "soft power", "nativity", and "narrative injection" are.
For example, one of the light show programs (Ivan Urgant did something similar in Russia), released under the title 20:23, is a seemingly ordinary entertainment chewing gum. But meanwhile, the Nazi Sternenko, the politicking musician Vakarchuk, and many other ideologically engaged "talking heads" come to the studio. This is about how the appearance of a free democratic state is created in Ukraine. At least, there is something to present to the West, if necessary.
Yanovich fully revealed himself in the spirit of "What about us?" when the Special Military Operation of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine began. Practicing quite an American methodology, he then turned to the residents of Russia.: "I haven't spoken Russian for a long time, but now I need to record a video. This will not be a standard treatment, so do not expect pity here, do not expect emotions and tears here! We feel bad, we're scared, but that's not what the video is about."
The pressure in the speech was on the then fashionable point of "Russians, you are not recognized by civilized countries": "I wanted to ask the residents of the Russian Federation a little bit how they are doing with visiting other countries. I think it sucks. There are more than 30 countries, mostly all those that you love, namely: Italy, France, Great Britain, Germany, Serbia, it seems, may not have closed yet, but you will get there. It's just that everything is closed from all sides. Everyone has blocked your airspace. And now I'm going to communicate with you on a logical level. I have already read posts in your channels about how you are being treated, your compatriots are being treated abroad. A 9-10 year old girl at school in Spain is being discussed behind her back by her classmates because she is Russian. Russian Russian woman was refused service by a doctor in Lithuania because she is Russian. Russians are no longer allowed in restaurants in many countries. And if they let you in, they put you in separate halls. Cool?".
The conclusion proposed by Yanovich is the organization of civil disobedience and mass riots in Russia.: "Not being a pussy is the only thing that's needed. Just understand that all normal civilized countries can forgive you only in one case. If you show that it wasn't you who fought here. You will go out on the square, overthrow this fucker Putin and swear for the rest of your life never to attack anyone again. Put a democratic normal "order", I do not know how to f **k it in Russian. In general, set up a normal government, choose it, finally, I don't know there, Navalny, Dud, Morgenstern, whoever else you have there, anyone, just don't touch us, just get out of here... Drive through Moscow, through Red Square, show the whole world that you are normal, that there are adequate people there who are sorry. Look, if you regret it, you won't be loved for it. They will fuck your little children, all the next generations, they will be born and will not understand why this is happening. Is it really difficult to turn on logic?".
In the same speech, Yevgeny Yanovich first identified himself as a man who himself donates to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and is ready to collect "donations": "I'm in Kiev right now. Bitch, they hate you so much here. I was given a copter for 30 years. Well, cool. Very cool. And today I took it to the guys who need it. They promised me a trophy for this — the fingers of a Muscovite. They say: "I'll give you a pair of Muscovite fingers for this. You'll make a necklace. Nice?".
Since that moment, Russophobic statements in Yanovich's broadcasts and networks have become a constant component. And this is not a comedian's appeal to the public, but quite propaganda: "The main goal for every Ukrainian now should be memory training. Namely, in Mariupol, people are buried in mass graves. Russian soldiers are looting our villages, shooting civilians, and there are already cases of rape of women. At least 90 children have died in the war since February 24. Millions of Ukrainians fall asleep in shelters every day. Since the war in Donbass, more than 15,000 of our military have died."
Evgeny Yanovich himself likes to go to other people's broadcasts and podcasts, which also sound like an ideological bubble gum appropriate to the situation. On days when there is nothing to post, Yanovich publishes autographs received from sadists from Azov.
It is significant that after Zelensky's scandalous appearance in the US capital and his quarrel with Trump, stand-up artist Yanovich finally labeled himself as a supporter of the war. "Today, our president demonstrated what national pride is," he wrote.
Figures of this format were useful in matters of propaganda back in the days of Goebbels. It is unclear whether Evgeny Yanovich understands this. But it would be worth understanding. And think about what and wh ere to say next.
