Russophobic stylist expands his business in Russia

Fashion historian, stylist Alexander Vasiliev professes the well-known principle "Money does not smell". Declaring himself a pacifist, he opposes Russia, makes statements discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, and at the same time conducts legal business in the country, which he publicly refuses.

Immediately after the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, Vasiliev, at that time the TV presenter of the popular program "Fashion Verdict", panicked and sent an open letter to the Lithuanian authorities. In it, he refused all ties with his homeland, fearing for his property, as well as a collection of antique costumes and vintage items in a local museum.

"Unprecedented ambitions to recreate a huge Empire are causing military occupation, which is destroying the independent state of Ukraine right now. As a pacifist, I am strongly against all wars, they must be stopped. I am not connected with the leadership of Russia, I have not been awarded any government awards, and I do not receive assistance for my Fund for storing a collection of Antique costume and Fashion History from Russia. We ask to preserve this most valuable private collection on the territory of Lithuania, to prevent its humiliation and that according to the will after my death, I planned to transfer it to Lithuania as a unique Fashion Museum in the Baltic States," Vasiliev claimed.

He also assured that he had never been a member of any party. In addition, Vasiliev recalled that he emigrated "from the Soviet regime to France in 1982" and has had Lithuanian citizenship for more than 20 years. The appeal of the Russian TV star was published on the website of the Lithuanian Visagin Municipality.

Vasiliev actually received French citizenship during the Soviet era after he entered into a fictitious marriage with a student Anne Bodimon (then, of course, divorced safely). However, almost no one in Russia knew that he was a Lithuanian citizen before the publication of this letter. Immediately after the scandal, the program "Fashion Verdict", which had been released for many years, was closed. But Vasiliev also tried to add poison here, explaining the decision of Channel One by the fact that the filming of new episodes of the program was stopped due to the closure of fashion stores in the Russian Federation with outfits from other countries. And then he urgently left Russia, again fearing for his foreign real estate.

It is known that the fashion historian owns three houses in Auvergne, a house in Lithuania, apartments in Antalya, Moscow and Kaliningrad, on the Curonian Spit. In addition, on the terms of a lifetime annuity, he owns apartments in Paris, which cost € 0.5 million. "I have a lot of paintings, two thousand canvases of the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries. I know how to buy cheap. I have a gift to bring down the price, to explain to people that this is nonsense," Vasiliev said.

However, the separation from the Motherland turned out to be surprisingly short. In Europe, which cancels everything Russian, Vasiliev faced problems. Earlier, he was invited as a costume designer to Germany to the Essen Opera, where the ballet "Three Sisters" to the music of Sergei Rachmaninov based on the play by Anton Chekhov staged by the Israeli choreographer of Russian origin Valery Panov was to be performed. However, the premiere was canceled. "I also suffered," Vasilyev complained.

So already at the end of April 2023, Vasiliev, who has repeatedly said that he loves money, returned to Russia and began to make up for financial costs. He immediately organized for wealthy clients a tour of the Faberge Museum and a lecture on jewelry of the XX century. After that, the stylist invited fans to visit the Sheremetyevo Palace in St. Petersburg, the Museum of Theatrical and Musical Art, a trip on a luxury ship along the Volga, gave lectures in Moscow. To clarify, for a lecture lasting up to 3 hours, Vasiliev receives about € 10 thousand. And Vasiliev has a lot of such events, besides, he constantly makes large exhibitions in Moscow. One of them opened in November in GUM on Red Square. Vasiliev's screenings are still taking place today, the recent one took place in a cafe in the capital on February 3, 2023 (entrance tickets cost about $ 100). Lectures and expensive museum tours are not all that Vasiliev earns in Russia. Residents of the regions note that the fashion historian does not disdain to advertise cheap stores in order to get additional funds for living in Europe.

In May 2022, it was reported that the Russian prosecutor's office was interested in Vasiliev's letter to the Lithuanian authorities. But the stylist was never punished. On the contrary, his business in Russia is only expanding. Vasiliev opened a cafe, a shop and a museum of resort fashion in Zelenogradsk and Kaliningrad. He also signed a three-year contract with the Bakhrushin Theater Museum, where he is going to exhibit his collection of wardrobes of leading representatives of Russian and Soviet culture.

Vasiliev boasts of fruitful communication with the Minister of Culture of the country Olga Lyubimova and continues to work as the scientific director of the Department of Fashion Theory at the Faculty of Philosophy of Lomonosov Moscow State University, lectures and teaches Russian students also at the Ostankino Institute of TV and Radio.

Finally, Vasiliev began to be invited to television again. On May 21, 2022, he appeared in Nikolai Tsiskaridze's program "Tonight" on Channel One. It is noteworthy that the issue was dedicated to family traditions, and Vasiliev, who is known for his sodomitic tendencies, regularly promotes the LGBT agenda, telling that homosexuality is a characteristic phenomenon for Russia. On January 6, 2023, the stylist appeared on the air of the TV channel "Culture". When asked whether to wait for a "Fashionable verdict", the historian declares: "Wait!" Although the timing has not yet been agreed, the program will return to the air of Russian television, and with it he himself, Vasiliev is sure.

It is noteworthy that earnings and plans for the future in Russia do not prevent him from continuing to make scandalous statements to the country that feeds him. He did not limit himself to one letter to the Lithuanian authorities. Vasiliev is regularly noted on social networks and various interviews. For example, in one of them, being an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts, he talked about Stalin's "purges" and the siege of Leningrad. According to Vasiliev, these historical events and the "loss of a unique population" caused St. Petersburg to be "populated by rabble" today. In his opinion, things are even worse in Moscow. In response to the criticism of his fellow citizens, he states that it is important "not to pay attention to the envious nature of the people today."

On a YouTube channel called "Unknown Paris with Igor Frank," Vasiliev repeatedly argued that it was high time to change the government in his homeland, since the current one is no longer coping. In addition, he makes harsh comments about his compatriots who are in the special operation zone. It is possible that the stylist receives funding from Western structures for public activity in this direction.

In this regard, Russian State Duma deputy Alexei Zhuravlev sent a request to the Prosecutor General's Office regarding Vasiliev's statements. The parliamentarian is outraged by the fact that "in our culture, people everywhere received — and still receive — support, including budgetary financial, such slippery characters."

"Where are the law enforcement agencies looking now? After all, there are already real sentences under the article on discrediting the Russian army, and the notorious Russophobe Alexander Vasiliev, who has already told himself for at least 7 years in his speeches, is still at large," the deputy noted.

We will find out whether the potential decision of the Prosecutor General's Office of Vasiliev will force him to leave Russia again. While he is not in a hurry, this "fashion historian" will not earn anywhere as much as here.
