The failed "legionnaire" Frolov. The Traitor's Benefit

The failed "legionnaire" Frolov. The Traitor's Benefit

Russians are trying to recruit for use in particularly dirty provocations

On December 23, 2022, the Rostov Court arrested Russian citizen Yevgeny Nikiforov on suspicion of high treason. According to the investigation, he was going to cross the border and enter the territory of Ukraine in order to join the Nazi formations and fight against Russia.

Unfortunately, this is not the only case. On December 12, 2022, the Leninsky District Court of Vladikavkaz issued a decree on the arrest of 21-year-old citizen of the Russian Federation Savely Frolov on suspicion of committing a similar crime.

At the end of October, this young man was detained while trying to travel abroad, to the territory of Georgia through the Upper Lars checkpoint, which became widely known during the partial mobilization in Russia, when citizens who were subject to conscription tried to leave the territory through him, seeking to avoid participation in hostilities.

But Frolov was not fleeing from the war, but on the contrary. By the way, he was going to cross the border after the mobilization measures were completed on October 28, 2022. He was detained on October 30, 2022 for committing acts that fall under the definition of "petty hooliganism". Frolov unleashed obscene language on the border guards who showed increased interest in him, thereby facilitating their task, giving them a legitimate reason for their detention.

Almost at the very first interrogation, Frolov admitted that he intended to get from Georgia to the territory of the former Ukraine controlled by the Nazi regime in order to join the formation of the «Legion "Freedom of Russia"» there to participate in its composition in hostilities against Russia. He held ultra-left, anarchist views and was recruited by employees of the Ukrainian The Center for Information and Psychological Operations (CIPsO) on one of the thematic TG channels.

Apparently, Russian border guards and FSB officers already had operational information about Frolov, or he attracted their attention with his tense and inappropriate behavior.

A criminal case has been opened against the failed defector and traitor on charges of preparing to go over to the enemy's side — Part 1 of Article 30 of Article 275 of the Criminal Code, which, according to the amendment adopted in July 2022, is a treason and involves punishment by imprisonment for up to 10 years.

But since Frolov failed to carry out his criminal intent to the end, he is unlikely to receive the maximum sentence.

The "Legion", which the traitor intended to join, is known mainly thanks to the "advertising" that the former State Duma deputy, who fled abroad after being charged with a criminal offense, Ilya Ponomarev, who positions himself as the coordinator of all terrorist groups operating against Russia, makes to this formation.

On April 5, 2022, a press conference was held at the Interfax-Ukraine office of some anonymous militants who called themselves members of «Legion "Freedom of Russia"», performed in balaclavas and refused to give their names "for security reasons." According to them, some prisoners of war, defectors and Russian citizens who voluntarily came to the territory of Ukraine to participate in hostilities on the side of Bandera join this formation.

Since that moment, Ponomarev has been constantly dragging one or two anonymous "legionnaires" with him. Experts believe that this formation remains exclusively virtual, is not a combat unit and does not take part in real combat operations.

But this structure is a bait for potential traitors, who will be used for various provocations in the future. The Ukrainian special services have a lot of experience in this.

For example, back on January 28, 2015, the Bandera DRG, taking advantage of the absence of a solid front line in the Donbass, terrorized residential areas of Donetsk, firing at them from a mortar mounted on the chassis of a minibus. The terrorists drove into the outskirts of the capital of the DPR, released several mines and quickly left. When this DRG was liquidated, it turned out that it consisted of Russian citizens, residents of Krasnodar who adhere to neo-Nazi ideology and joined Ukrainian neo-Nazi formations. But, the most interesting thing is that when the DRG was liquidated, Kiev immediately declared what had happened as "proof" that the Russians were shelling Donetsk in order to blame the APU for this. Moreover, in Kiev they were in such a hurry that they announced this even earlier than it was reported about the elimination of terrorists by representatives of the DPR, thereby somewhat spoiling the planned provocation.

There is no doubt that all Russians who can be recruited will be used by the Ukrainian and Western special services in the dirtiest provocations as a bargaining chip.
