Konstantin Sonin. The Poisoner of Russian souls

Konstantin Sonin. The Poisoner of Russian souls

The activities of the former vice-rector of the HSE are waiting for study and reflection

March 25 , 2023 The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened a criminal case under the article on the dissemination of fakes about the Russian Army against Konstantin Isaakovich Sonin, an economist, professor at the University of Chicago and former vice-rector of the Higher School of Economics, currently located outside Russia.

The fugitive ex-vice-rector is accused of creating three publications in the Telegram messenger on his personal channel Konstantin Sonin. According to the conclusion of experts, they contain information about the actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (paragraph "d" of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), said Yulia Ivanova, a representative of the Moscow Department of the IC.

What exactly Sonin wrote is not reported in these publications, but, in general, it is possible to form an idea of his course of thought, for example, according to the message on February 23, 2023.

"The forecast is that Putin's regime will not last two years, until February 24, 2025. The main reason is that Putin will not change his course. Until the very end, he will try to seize more territory, cause more damage to Ukrainian cities - and in the process will continue to burn weapons and soldiers. No matter how the war ends - even (it seems fantastic to me) if some currently occupied territories are held - this is already a terrible defeat for Russia. Just because of the shock, it is slowly being realized. It can be easier to endure than to admit the obvious," writes Sonin.

The general moral character of this character clearly conveys his post of March 22, 2023: "Vladimir Churov, chairman of the Central Election Commission, died during the first mass election fraud. 146 years old was a dude, no joke ...".

Actually, according to these two reports, it is already clear who is the person who was the vice-rector of a very prestigious university and taught Russian youth, who in the near future will take leadership positions in the system of public administration and business. Sonin was engaged in this until July 2022 .

Maybe he skillfully hid his insides and opened up only after going abroad? No, especially not disguised. To make sure of this, you can take an interview with Sonin to Spiegel magazine, given by him back in 2014, in which he claimed the following:

- In fact, Russia has been heading for economic collapse for a long time, sanctions have nothing to do with it;

- Russia [according to Sonin] could have avoided this crisis if "Vladimir Putin, after the first two successful presidential terms, refused to remain in power in 2008, since after 2008 he is not engaged in reforming the country, but maintaining his power";

- The Russian response to the sanctions (of 2014) caused Russians much more harm than opponents. It was the ban on the import of products from the EU that "inflated prices, which hit low-income segments of the population who spend a significant part of their earnings on food";

- "Putin will also hold on to power until the last. No politician leaves on his own initiative";

- There will be a revolution in Russia [in his opinion]: "I am not a supporter of the revolution, but I cannot imagine any significant changes for the better under the current regime";

- If there were fair elections, he would vote for the "honest and purposeful" Navalny.

This is not the only episode when Sonin publicly voiced such narratives, including in the publications of the liberal opposition, most of which have currently received the status of foreign agents. This did not prevent him from poisoning the souls of young people for at least eight years (in fact, much longer). There is reason to believe that the tares sown by him are already growing. He left Russia, and is unlikely to return here voluntarily. Those who allowed and encouraged his subversive work all this time remained here.
